La Aurora Sweetens Its Cheapest Line

The oldest cigar factory in the Dominican Republic is going flavored-adjacent. La Aurora USA's new Cazadores Flavors takes the company's budget Cazadores line and splits it into three aromatic versions: Brown, built on the existing Indonesian maduro; Blond, on the Connecticut Shade; and Caribbean, on a Nicaraguan wrapper. They ship this month in robusto and toro at $6.00 to $6.25 a stick in twenty-count boxes. The pricing is the tell. With premium smokers loudly complaining about $20 limiteds, the growth fight is happening at the bottom of the shelf, where machine-made and flavored products dominate convenience-store traffic. La Aurora is clearly trying to pull value humidor smokers and curious newcomers into a Dominican puro at impulse prices, using flavors as the gateway rather than the gimmick. For a 119-year-old family factory, that is a pragmatic bet, not a surrender.
