La Flor Dominicana Puts Its Cigars in Carbon Fiber

La Flor Dominicana has begun shipping Carbon Flower, a collaboration with ProjectCarbon that packages five full-bodied cigars inside a carbon fiber case instead of the usual box. The cigar itself is a 6 x 54 toro extra, built on a Mexican San Andres wrapper over tobaccos grown on LFD's own farms in La Canela in the Dominican Republic. The asking price is $200 for the five-count set, which means the accessories are doing significant work on perceived value alongside the tobacco. Tony Gomez framed the concept around translating carbon fiber's physical qualities -- density, texture, weight, a certain severity of presence -- into a blend, and a Mexican San Andres wrapper is not a bad place to start for that brief. Whether the execution earns $40 a stick on its own is what reviewers will eventually settle; for now, it is one of the more conceptually coherent luxury-tier collaborations the industry has produced, a case where the accessory brand and the cigar brand are speaking the same visual language rather than just co-branding on packaging.
