One of the quiet pleasures of the modern cigar business is watching rival factories collaborate, and the new Sancho Panza Limited Edition is a clean example: Matt Booth, creative director at Scandinavian Tobacco Group, and business lead Justin Andrews developed the blend with the team at Oliva Cigar Co. The recipe leans on Ecuador for wrapper (habano-seed) and binder (Sumatra-grown), then Nicaragua for filler from three terroirs: Condega, Esteli, and Somoto. The company calls it medium-bodied with a spicy throughline, and Booth describes the experience as episodic, full of transitions. Sancho Panza is one of the oldest names in the General portfolio, long overdue for a serious makeover, and borrowing a respected family factory's blending brain is a smart way to earn back smokers who wrote the brand off.
