Trinidad Gets Its First Reserva, and It Aims High

Trinidad has been the quietest of Cuba's marquee brands, and its first-ever Reserva edition says where Habanos wants the marque to sit. The Vigia Reserva Cosecha 2022 is a 4 1/3 x 54 built entirely from 2022-harvest tobacco aged at least three years, dressed with three bands including a Vigia foot band. Production is small in Cuban terms: 5,000 numbered boxes of 20 plus 5,000 three-count gift boxes, roughly 115,000 cigars. Pricing is not small - $190 per cigar, $3,800 per box, $660 for the gift trio - with no retail timeline after its Montreux unveiling. The Reserva line has been Habanos' aged-stock crown jewel for Cohiba and Romeo y Julieta; giving Trinidad the slot shows confidence in a brand that spent decades as a diplomatic gift. The timing, a week into the German distributor insolvency, also shows Habanos leaning on ultra-premium scarcity.
