Miles Davis at 100, in Smoke and Wax: The Ferio Tego Milestones Release

The Ferio Tego Milestones is not the first cigar to borrow a musician's name, but the connection here is deeper than licensing. Michael Herklots, who co-founded Ferio Tego in 2021, studied drum set performance at Berklee College of Music and spent time in the Miles Davis Ensemble. The new release lets him return to that material in the medium he chose after music.

The cigar is a 6 x 50 toro made at Diadema Cigars de Honduras S.A., the Davidoff-owned factory in Danli. It wears an Ecuadorian Connecticut-seed wrapper over a Honduran binder and fillers from the Dominican Republic, Honduras, and Nicaragua. The profile is deliberately approachable: a medium-bodied smoke that Ferio Tego describes with the same words people use for Davis's playing on the 1958 album that gave the release its name. Each box of ten cigars is priced at $185 and includes one of four 5 x 7 reproductions of original Miles Davis sketches, packed at random. Retailers receive the boxes in four-box sets containing one of each sketch. A playlist curated by Herklots, Reservoir Media, and the Miles Davis Estate comes with the package, making the release as much a collector's artifact as a smoke. The collaboration matters because it is not a celebrity endorsement. It is a small American cigar company, distributed by a major Swiss-owned house, honoring a centennial through the actual medium the founder trained in.
