The C Monster Returns: Tatuaje's Coffin Cigar Goes Back on the Road

The Tatuaje Monster Series has always been Pete Johnson's answer to the question of whether a cigar can be both collectible and smokeable. Each fall the line releases a new creature, and each creature arrives with a story built as carefully as the blend. For 2026 the creature is the Old Man and the C Monster, a release that revisits a packaging concept Johnson first used in 2011 rather than inventing a new one.

The release pairs two 7 x 44 formats inside a single coffin: a Lonsdale and a Culebra, both rolled from the same Nicaraguan puro blend at My Father Cigars. The Culebra is the more theatrical of the two, three small cigars braided together into a single twist that the smoker separates before lighting. Both share the Creature blend, a profile the series has used before, so the smoke itself will be familiar to anyone who has chased earlier Monsters.

What is not familiar is the scale. Tatuaje is limiting the release to 1,300 cabinet boxes worldwide. Each cabinet contains six individual coffins, and each coffin carries a suggested retail price of $54, which puts a full cabinet at $324 before tax. The cigars are allocated to qualifying retailers, which means most consumers will see them only through stores with a strong Tatuaje relationship.

That allocation model has become part of the product. The Monster Series does not try to be everywhere. It tries to be missed by almost everyone and found by the people who care enough to hunt. The Old Man and the C Monster continues that tradition with a format that is half cigar and half artifact, a release where the coffin matters almost as much as the tobacco inside it.

For smokers, the practical question is whether to light one or keep it sealed. At $54 per coffin, neither choice is cheap. But Tatuaje has built a career on releases that make that dilemma feel like the whole point.
